The scores remained level throughout the second half and after extra-time, before Cedric Barbosa's penalty confirmed Evian's place in the next round.

Manchester City 1:0 Wigan
Carlos Tevez's late strike gave Manchester City a crucial 1-0 victory over Wigan to keep their hopes of retaining the Premier League title alive.
The home side were frustrated by a well-organised Wigan side, who created plenty of chances of their own, notably through the impressive attacking triumvirate of Shaun Maloney, Franco Di Santo and Arouna Kone.

City, who lost Sergio Aguero to injury at half-time, stepped it up after the break but could not find an elusive opening goal, with Aguero's replacement Edin Dzeko missing a great chance before Tevez's moment of magic secured a gutsy win.

Wigan started brightly but it was the hosts who mustered the first real opening, with Aleksandar Kolarov flashing a free-kick just inches wi ... Read more »

Fulham had the better of the opening exchanges, and nearly took an early lead when Sascha Riether swung in a superb cross from the right, but Bryan Ruiz scooped his effort way over the bar from just a few yards out.

Vieira backs Nasri to improve
Manchester City development executive Patrick Vieira has defended Samir Nasri at the end of a tough campaign for the Frenchman.
Nasri has found the net just once in the top-flight this season and has been unable to hold down a position in the starting lineup, drawing criticism from manager Roberto Mancini.

However, after some better displays - including a goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, Vieira insists that Nasri still plays a major in the set-up at the Etihad Stadium adding the midfielder will be a better player next year.

"All of these problems have perhaps sullied the image of the player, however, he remains an important player for City and the France national team," he told RMC.

Southampton a tough test, says Britton
Leon Britton says Swansea must take three points against Southampton to maintain their hopes of a top-10 finish.
The Swans have been on a poor run of form lately, not tasting victory since beating Newcastle 1-0 on March 2 and can next rectify that slump against Mauricio Pochettino's improving Saints.

"Southampton have done brilliantly recently, particularly since the new manager came in. They've beaten some massive teams and now they are pretty much safe," midfielder Britton told the club's official website.

"They have been on a great run of form and that's something we are well aware of. It's going to be a very tough afternoon for us.

Del Bosque comes to Casillas´ defence
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has slammed critics of Real Madrid skipper Iker Casillas.
Del Bosque went as far as to suggest that such criticism of a goalkeeping 'legend' would not occur to the likes of Peter Shilton in England.

The shot-stopper suffered a hand injury in January which kept him sidelined until late March but he has been prevented from making a first-team comeback due to Diego Lopez's form in La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey since his arrival from Sevilla.

Although del Bosque refused to be drawn on the debate over who should be handed the No.1 spot for Jose Mourinho's side, he does believe the World Cup-winning captain deserves more respect.

City have underachieved this term and lie 15 points behind Manchester United at the top of the table, with their title defence in ruins.

They also disappointed in the Champions League, dropping out at the group stages, but can still end the campaign on a high by beating Wigan to lift the FA Cup and finish second in the league.

Barry conceded City have taken a backwards step, but insists they have learned from their mistakes and are looking ahead to next season, when he believes they will come back a stronger force.

Hoeness wants tough action from Platini
Uli Hoeness wants Michel Platini to kick teams out of the Champions League if they fail to adhere to new Financial Fair Play (FFP) measures.
UEFA regulations from next season state that teams are not allowed to spend more than they earn, with Malaga set to be banned from European competition for breaching the latest ruling.

However, Hoeness, the Bayern Munich president has suggested that some of the continent's biggest sides will get away with their financial misdemeanours as a result of Platini's close relationship with certain teams.

"If Platini is consistent then within the next two years he must kick teams out of the Champions League to make a mark, like he is doing with Malaga," he told Servus TV.

The Portuguese has been linked with a return to Chelsea at the end of the season, with Paris Saint-Germain also touted as another possible destination, and Manuel Alvarez's claims will now add weight to those rumours.
