Pardew issues Sunderland taunt
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew believes local rivals Sunderland "can only dream" of matching their European achievements.
Pardew's side suffered a damaging 3-0 home defeat at the hands of their neighbours last Sunday, giving Paolo Di Canio an emphatic first win since taking over from Martin O'Neill.
However, despite that humbling loss Pardew still feels Sunderland remain envious of Newcastle's exploits in the UEFA Europa League.
He said: "It was a great day for Sunderland and for us a tough day. But I would rather play and give it a good go in the quarter-final of the Europa Lea

Farfan targets title tilt
Schalke forward Jefferson Farfan says he dreams of one day winning the Bundesliga title with the club.
The 28-year-old signed for the Gelsenkirchen side in 2008 and although he understands Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are the strongest sides in Germany, will not give up on winning the title in the coming years. "Winning the Bundesliga would be my biggest dream," Farfan told Bild . "Although our chance has gone this year, next season we will go for it, even though Bayern and Dortmund are the big favourites." Farfan's contract runs until 2016, and the speedy Peruvian believes there is every chance he will remain with Schalke for the remainder of his career. "Finishing my career here is a possibility. Schalke has become my second home, and I am very happy here," he said. "At the very end of my career I would like

Enrique hails Liverpool improvement
Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique believes the lack of a trophy this season does not take away from the progress made by his side.
Enrique won the League Cup with Liverpool in his first season at the club under then manager Kenny Dalglish but he has been unable to add to that trophy this campaign.
The 27-year-old has defended the lack of silverware this season and insists the club have progressed, even if their results do not show it, and will continue to improve in the future.
"In terms of football and for the future, I think so," Enrique told reporters.
"As the manager (Brendan Rodgers) said from the start, it's difficult because he came to the club w

Benitez focused on the game
Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez will attempt to put sentiment to one side when he returns to Anfield to take on Liverpool.
Benitez was in charge at Liverpool from 2004 to 2010 and is loved on Merseyside after leading the club to an incredible 2005 UEFA Champions League triumph.
The Spaniard still lives in the area and spoke about the respect he has for the club, but added that he wants to win the fixture that could be crucial in Chelsea's hopes of finishing second in the table.
"I have a lot of respect, but I have to concentrate on my team," Benitez said.
"I don't want any misunderstanding, so I will concentrate just on Chelsea and the game and try to enjoy it, especially if we can win.

Ferguson admits games getting tougher
Sir Alex Ferguson admits the closer Manchester United get to winning their 20th English league title the harder the games are getting.
United host Aston Villa on Monday, a team they have lost to only once since 1995.
But a derby defeat to rivals Manchester City and a bruising 2-2 draw at West Ham United in recent weeks suggests the final push towards the title is proving no easy task.
"We maybe could have won it in the last 20 minutes (against West Ham), when we had all the play and one or two chances," Ferguson said.
"But nonetheless we have to be satisfied coming back from being down twice to getting a point.

Premier League: Tottenham - Manchester City
Tottenham's European ambitions face a stern test on Sunday when they welcome Manchester City to White Hart Lane.
Andre Villas-Boas' side are in fifth place in the Premier League, two points behind Arsenal but with a game in hand on the Gunners. They need to finish fourth to secure a spot in the Champions League qualifiers, and if they can manage to overhaul third-placed Chelsea by the end of the campaign, they will gain automatic entry to the competition. Since their 2-1 win over Arsenal on March 3, Tottenham have suffered a worrying form slump, recording only one win from their past four league games and exiting the Europa League at the hands of Basel, with a 2-2 draw against the Swiss club their most recent outing. That slump has been compounded by the loss of talismanic winger Ga

Premier League: Liverpool v Chelsea
Chelsea's Champions League ambitions will come under further scrutiny when they face a difficult trip to Anfield to meet Liverpool on Sunday.
Chelsea are in the box seat to take third place in the Premier League, and the accompanying automatic Champions League place, sitting one point clear of fourth-placed Arsenal with a game in hand over their rivals. But with fixtures to come against Liverpool, Manchester United, Spurs and Everton, Rafa Benitez's side face an anxious run home before their European fate is finally decided. The Blues made a welcome return to form on Wednesday with a 3-0 triumph over Fulham at Craven Cottage, with David Luiz's thunderbolt from distance to open the scoring a highlight. That ended a run of two defeats on the trot for Chelsea, who lost the second leg o
