Premier League: Manchester City - Wigan
premier league
Manchester City host Wigan in the Premier League on Wednesday in a preview of this year's FA Cup final.
Roberto Mancini's side overcame Chelsea 2-1 in their semi-final on Sunday to book a place in their second final in three years, one day after Wigan beat Millwall 2-0 to ensure they would be at Wembley on May 11th.

Both sides will turn their attention to the Premier League for the time being with Wednesday's clash shaping up as a vital match for Wigan as they attempt to avoid the drop.

Roberto Martinez's men are currently languishing in 18th position on the table, three points from safety with a result at the Etihad crucial to their survival hopes.

United watch Torino´s Ogbonna
ogbonna
Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna has admitted he is flattered by reported interest from Manchester United.
The 24-year-old Italian international was allegedly the subject of a Manchester United scouting delegation in Torino's 2-1 home defeat to Roma at the weekend.

Despite the link to the current Premier League leaders, Ogbonna remains coy about his future and says he is not thinking about any potential move just yet.

"This obviously pleases me, but right now I do not think about the future. I live in the present. I, just like all my team-mates, think only about saving Turin," Ogbonna told Tuttomer ... Read more »

Despite his Victory side bowing out of the A-League finals race on Sunday, the New Zealand-born Rojas lit up the league with a number of memorable goals in the 15 he scored for the season.

Boateng blasts B-team talk
boateng
Jerome Boateng has labelled claims that Jupp Heynckes put out a B-team for the 4-0 win over Nurnberg 'disrespectful'.
Following their midweek victory over Juventus, Bayern Munich rested a number of stars for the derby clash but the Germany international feels the side that played was still very strong.

"Honestly speaking, I think it's pretty disrespectful to talk about a B-team," the 24-year-old defender told Bild.

"They were even talking about a B-team when there were changes on only three positions, when Arjen Robben, Mario Gomez and me, three international players, were in the starting XI. ... Read more »

Simeone has Real in his sights
simeone
Diego Simeone believes Atletico Madrid can pip Real Madrid to second place in La Liga after their 5-0 win over Granada.
Atletico are three points behind their city rivals and the Argentine believes the result against the Andalusian minnows can be the catalyst for a late charge to finish as runners-up.

"We want second place," the 42-year-old coach told reporters.

"The team did a great job and now we have 65 points. We were able to take our chances and this made the team to play a more intense game. I am very satisfied with our work.

FA take no action against Aguero
aguero
The Football Association will take no action against Sergio Aguero for his two-footed lunge on David Luiz in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
Referee Chris Foy awarded a free-kick at the time and did not even book Aguero, but has been deemed to have already dealt with the incident sufficiently by the FA.

The Argentine was apparently riled at receiving an elbow to the ribs from Luiz moments earlier, and lunged in two-footed as the Brazilian lay prone on the floor following a tussle for possession.

After the match Luiz called on his opponent to apologise, saying: "Aguero's a great player, he n ... Read more »

Galliani happy with Napoli point
galliani
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani believes his side's draw at San Siro against Napoli will go down as a point well earned.
Milan went ahead through Mathieu Flamini on the half-hour mark, only for their lead to be cancelled out by Goran Pandev three minutes later but the 68-year-old is satisfied with their efforts, particularly after the Frenchman was sent off.

"I'm happy about the result especially after we went down to 10 men," the 68-year-old told Milan Channel.

"It was a tough and complicated game and I'm content with the point. The team were competitive and if we played like this agai ... Read more »

Gibson facing thigh surgery, Moyes reveals
moyes gibson
Everton's Darron Gibson is likely to undergo surgery at the end of the season to fix a thigh problem, his manager David Moyes said.
The problem forced the Republic of Ireland international to miss nearly three months from September, and despite returning as a regular earlier this year, he is seemingly still suffering.

Gibson scored only his second goal for the club since moving from Manchester United in January 2012 in Everton's 2-0 victory over QPR on Saturday.

And Moyes believes that the 25-year-old has the ability to score more often but his thigh problem is restricting him.

San Jose critical of Ronaldo conduct
ronaldo
Athletic Bilbao defender Mikel San Jose has hit out at Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo following side's 3-0 defeat to Real on Sunday.
The Portugal international netted twice to help Real to a comfortable La Liga win, yet San Jose was not impressed with the prolific attacker's behaviour during the game.

"If he solely dedicated himself to playing football, he would not only be the best player, but he would also get some respect," San Jose told Marca.

"That's how I think about it and how the majority of the people in the game feel."

Serie A: Lazio Vs Juventus - Betting Tip
Serie ALazio and Juventus will be quickly looking to put behind them their European disappointment by achieving a positive result at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday.

After their derby exploits against Roma last week the Biancocelesti are missing key players because of suspension including Giuseppe Biava, Stefan Radu and Senad Lulic, while Abdoulay Konko, Andre Dias and Bruno Pereirinha are unlikely to be fit in time for the clash.

Ogenyi Onazi and Stefano Mauri return from the suspension that saw them sit out the 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce, which ultimately eliminated Vladimir Petkovic's men from the Europa League.

Simeone still sceptical of challengers in Spain
simeone
Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has argued La Liga is too unpredictable for his side to slacken off in their bid for European football.
Despite having seen his team demolish Granada 5-0 on Sunday to strengthen their hold on third place in La Liga, Simeone said he believes there have been enough 'unexpected' scores over the past month in Spain's top tier to keep him vigilant against complacency.
While Atletico sit in Spain's third automatic UEFA Champions League qualifying berth, and have an 11 point gap on fourth-placed Real Sociedad, Simeone is wary of thinking his side's spot in Europe's premier club competitions is sealed just yet.

Cursed season angers Stramaccioni
stramaccioni
Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni believes his side's season has been 'cursed' with injuries and refereeing decisions.
Inter are seventh after their 2-0 loss to Cagliari on Sunday and the 37-year-old is in no doubt as to the cause of their slump.

"The key was yet another injury in this cursed campaign, as we lost Walter Gargano. His absence made us lose something in terms of balance," Stramaccioni told reporters.

"Yuto Nagatomo then came off the bench and got injured again after three minutes, so we've lost another two players for Wednesday.

Kompany refutes penalty claims
kompany
Manchester City's Vincent Kompany has refuted claims he fouled Fernando Torres in the box late in his team's 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea.
The Belgium defender appeared to tug the shirt of the Blues striker inside the penalty area as Rafa Benitez's side mounted a comeback during the closing minutes of the Wembley encounter, with Torres insinuating that referee Chris Foy needed glasses.

But Kompany denied it was a penalty and said he did everything right in the challenge.

"I thought it was great defending," he told ITV Sport. "I put my body in the way, I did everything I could. He pulled ... Read more »

Koke conjures Madrid magic
koke
Atletico Madrid have smashed Granada 5-0 to strengthen their grip on one of Spain's automatic UEFA Champions League qualifying spots.

Central midfielder Koke ran the show for Atletico Madrid on Sunday, setting up three goals for the home side, as they demolished 17th-placed Granada to stay 11 points clear in third.
Atletico Madrid would need to slip to fifth by the end of the season to completely miss out on the Champions League, as fourth position comes with a berth in next season's qualifying playoffs.
With seven rounds remaining in La Liga, the capital club's 15-point gap on fifth-placed Malaga looks formidable.

Melbourne Victory coach Ange Postecoglou was keen to look to the future after his side's 1-0 loss to Central Coast ended their A-League season.
A goal from Daniel McBreen just before half-time in Sunday's preliminary final in Gosford was enough to send the Mariners into their second grand final in three years.

Postecoglou was disappointed to see his side's season come to an end, but said he was looking forward to continuing the work he has started with the powerhouse club.

"Being so close to getting there, it's always bitterly disappointing and very disappointing for our club and our fans," P ... Read more »
