Porto have announced that Pacos Ferreira manager Paulo Fonseca will replace Vitor Perreira as head coach.
Fonseca impressed last season as he guided Pacos Ferreira to third place in the league, their highest-ever finish, to seal a spot in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers despite working a much smaller budget compared to their illustrious opponents.
His work has been rewarded with a move to the reigning Primeira Liga champions, the 40-year-old leaves Pacos after one year in charge and has signed a two-year contract at Estadio do Dragao.
Fonseca replaces Vitor Perreira who left to manage Al Ahli after guiding the club to two league titles in two seasons, and will be challenged with improving the club's performances in the UEFA Champions League having reached the last 16 of this year's competition.
Porto won the league in stunning circumstances last term, beating Benfica in the penultimate game of the season thanks to Kelvin's 92nd-minute winner, after both clubs had gone unbeaten throughout the season prior to the clash.
A statement from Porto confirmed the appointment: "Paulo Fonseca will be the new coach of FC Porto and will sign a contract for the next two seasons. signing of the bond will be held on Monday.
"(The signing will be) followed by a short interview with the coach and the president Pinto da Costa."
