Al-Thani: Malaga victims on racism

al thani
Malaga owner Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani has alleged his side's elimination from the Champions League was due to racism.
In the wake of Malaga's 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, in which a controversial late goal denied them a spot in the semi-final of Europe's premier club competition, the outspoken Qatari declared he wants the closing stages of the game looked into due to apparent ill-treatment of his club.

"This is not football but racism clear of all," Al-Thani posted on his official Twitter account.

"I hope to open a thorough UEFA investigation regarding the Spanish club (which went) out this way, which does not affect the spirit of sport.

"Thank you very much (to) the team, you have been champions on the pitch. I'm sorry to go out this way (with) injustice and racism."

Al-Thani previously found himself mired in controversy following his comments about the Spanish media's role in the distribution of revenue from La Liga television rights, and his most recent claims will likely cast the spotlight on him again.

Malaga, who are banned from entering the Champions League next season due to a breach of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations, were on the brink of progression to the last four for the first time in their history until the late turn-around.
