Mancini´s possible replacements

premier league
Manchester City have begun their search for a new manager, after Roberto Mancini was sacked on Monday.
The Italian was a popular figure among the club's fans, after bringing the 2011-2012 Premier League title to the Etihad stadium.

But who are the main contenders to replace the former Inter boss?

Who: Manuel Pellegrini

The Chilean has been installed as the overwhelming favourite to replace Mancini, but denied he was heading to the Etihad after his side's 0-0 draw with Sevilla on Sunday.

Odds: 2/9 (bet365)

Current club: Malaga

What they said:

"I categorically deny that I am the new Manchester City coach," Pellegrini stated.

"Nothing has been signed and no agreement reached. I've been fortunate enough, and very proud, that every year the big clubs are interested in me."

Who: Jose Mourinho

It is perhaps the worst-kept secret in football that Real Madrid manager Mourinho wants to return to the Premier League. Heavily linked with former club Chelsea, he may be tempted by City's vast riches.

Odds: 7/2 (bet365)

Current club: Real Madrid

What they said:

"I'm loved by a media (in England) that treats me in a fair way, criticising me when I have (to be) and giving me credit when I deserve it. I know I am loved by some clubs, especially one, and in Spain the situation is a bit different because some people hate me," he said after Real's UEFA Champions League exit.

Who: Frank de Boer

The former Netherlands international has just guided Ajax to consecutive league titles, and has been linked with Premier League clubs.

Odds: 66/1 (bet365)

What they said:

When offered the chance to talk to Liverpool in May 2012 about then vacant managerial post, de Boer said: "I'm honoured with the request, but I've only just started with Ajax. Even if Barcelona were to approach me tomorrow, I wouldn't go. I'm not finished here."

Who: Michael Laudrup

The Swansea boss has received plaudits for guiding his side to League Cup success and a top-ten Premier League finish, while playing a free-flowing attacking game.

Odds: 66/1 (bet365)

Current club: Swansea City

What they said:

"It's always flattering when you're being connected with clubs," Laudrup said on speculation linking him to the Everton job.

"After a great season with Swansea, we know we have a very important year next year."

Who: Roberto Martinez

The Spaniard has previously turned down talks with Aston Villa and Liverpool, but after beating City in the Fa Cup final on Saturday, the Wigan manager's stock has never been higher.

Odds: 100/1 (bet365)

Current club: Wigan Athletic

What they said:

"There is a right and wrong time to leave," Martinez said when asked about the Everton position.

"I don't believe it is just about jumping on the success train."
