Laudrup sets his sights on eighth place

premier league
Michael Laudrup believes Swansea can win their own 'mini-league' by beating Fulham on the final day of the season.
Laudrup’s side lost 2-1 against Manchester United on Sunday during an emotional day at Old Trafford that saw the Premier League champions snatch victory late on in Alex Ferguson’s last home game as manager before he retires.

Michu cancelled out Javier Hernandez's opener before Rio Ferdinand lashed home a winner five minutes from time.

But Laudrup admits the game should perhaps have been over by half-time, such was United’s dominance.

"I thought we were excellent second half," said Laudrup.

"First half they were the better team, which is expected when you play Man United at Old Trafford. I think we were a little lucky to only go in 1-0.

"I think the second half was a very good half but unfortunately the last couple of minutes another set piece the thing that has been our weak point this season."

Despite his grievances, Laudrup insists Swansea can reflect on a ‘great season’ that included victory in the League Cup final against Bradford City.

"Things have to go very badly for us to not finish at least ninth and we even have a possibility, if Man United do us a favour against West Brom in the last game, we win we could be eighth, which for us would be like winning the championship because eighth is a maximum for us when we look at the seven teams above us, " he added.

"So we'll probably end up first or second in our mini-league.

"Plus the cup it's been a great season for us."
