Lanus leapfrog Newells at the top

Lanus moved to the top of the Argentine Primera Division with a 2-1 win over Argentinos Juniors as Newell's Old Boys stumbled.
A Silvio Romero double ensured that Guillermo Barros Schelotto's side leapt to the summit on Saturday, with Matias Martinez's 81st-minute reply proving little more than a consolation for the hosts.

Newell's subsequently missed the chance to regain supremacy on Tuesday, as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

Dario Benetto grabbed both the goals for the Sarandi outfit, as they moved up into sixth place in the standings.

It ended honours even in the glamour fixture of the round, as Boca Juniors and River Plate played out a 1-1 draw in the Superclasico on Sunday.

A Manuel Lanzini header opened the scoring for River at La Bombonera before Tanque Silva ensured the great rivals would share the spoils.

Elsewhere, Torneo Inicial winners Velez Sarsfield continued their poor start to the Final as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Racing Club which keeps them in 17th.

And Estudiantes sit two places below Velez after they also posted a 0-0 draw against All Boys at the Estadio Islas Malvinas.

In mid-table, San Lorenzo moved level on points with Quilmes after they came from a goal down to beat Omar de Felippe's side 2-1 away from home.

The hosts had gone in at half-time 1-0 ahead thanks to Fernando Elizari's goal but Julio Buffarini and Gonzalo Veron both netted courtesy of Angel Correra assists after the break to take the points.

Atletico Rafaela and Godoy Cruz remain level on points in fourth and fifth after wins over San Martin and Colon respectively.

Federico Gonzalez netted 83rd and 88th-minute penalties to help Atletico come back from a goal down to win 2-1, while Godoy cruised to a 3-0 home victory on Friday.

Two first-half goals from Adrian Fernandez allowed Independiente to leapfrog Tigre in the standings courtesy of a 2-0 victory, and Union drew 1-1 with Belgrano - with both results keeping the participants firmly in mid-table.
