Ferguson to quit Old Trafford?

premier league
Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson could be on the verge of quitting Old Trafford, according to reports in the English press.
The 71-year-old – who will undergo a hip operation in the off-season – has just led Manchester United to their 20th English top-flight title.

Ferguson, who has been in charge for 13 of those successes, only recently claimed that he would be at the club for some time yet, but reports that began to emerge on Tuesday suggest that Ferguson is considering walking away from the club he has been at for 27 years.

The Telegraph said that the club's golf day on Tuesday was marred with talk that Ferguson would announce he was to walk away from his post before Sunday's home fixture against Swansea City.

Everton manager David Moyes saw his odds slashed to become the next Manchester United manager earlier on Tuesday, while Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho would surely be in the mix if the Scotsman is to quit Manchester.

The Premier League champions failed to release a statement or comment publicly about the speculation on Tuesday, while some bookmakers also closed betting on the club's next manager.

And the story is sure to gather momentum on Wednesday, with the Daily Mail and The Sun also set to run stories about the uncertainty surrounding Ferguson's future.

Since arriving at Manchester United in November 1986, Ferguson has led the club to five FA Cup wins, four League Cup triumphs and two successes in the UEFA Champions League.
