Premier League: West Ham - Newcastle United

premier league
Premier League strugglers Newcastle United will hope to reverse their dreadful away form when they visit West Ham on Saturday.
Alan Pardew's side have plummeted down the table in recent weeks and sit 17th after suffering a 6-0 home thrashing at the hands of Liverpool last week.

Only one more club can be relegated from the top-flight after QPR and Reading had their fate sealed on Sunday, and Newcastle are still five points above the 18th-placed Wigan.

But the DW Stadium outfit have a game in hand and will be hopeful Newcastle's woeful efforts on the road this season – they have won just two of 26 away matches in all competitions – continue at Upton Park.

West Ham also lost last week, but they were far from disgraced in a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City, a result that ended a five-match unbeaten run.

They sit 10th in the table and will be desperate for three points that could help them secure their first top-half finish in the Premier League since the 2008-09 season.

Newcastle can take some heart from their recent form at Upton Park, having lost just once in their last six attempts.

They have triumphed in three of those fixtures, including a 2-1 success in their last meeting, in October 2010.

Scoring for the winners on that day were Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll, both of who now play for West Ham.

There has been plenty of player movement between the two sides in recent years, while Allardyce and Pardew have managed both clubs.

Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini will return from a back injury, while Frenchman Sylvain Marveaux (groin) is an outside chance.

Goalkeeper Tim Krul (dislocated shoulder), defender Davide Santon (hamstring) and utility Ryan Taylor (knee) are longer-term absentees.

West Ham have close to a clean bill of health, with defenders James Tomkins (calf) and George McCartney (knee) the only players on the club's injury list.

West Ham won the earlier clash between the two sides this season, with Nolan netting the winner in a 1-0 triumph at St. James' Park in November.

And they will fancy their chances of getting all three points again as they face a Newcastle side desperately out of form.
