It was a day of surprises in the Campeonato Paulista on Thursday, as bottom two Sao Caetano and Uniao Barbarense earned valuable points.
Sao Caetano earned just their second win of the season, but did so in fine style as they dismissed Ituano 3-0 at home.
Despite sitting bottom of the table with just six points in 12 games, Sao Caetano began the better of the two sides at the Estadio Municipal Anacleto Campanella, as Jael struck after just four minutes.
They doubled their lead on 20 minutes when Eder was on target, and they maintained that advantage until late on when Danielzinho sealed the points on 86 minutes.
Sao Caetano ensured Barbarense finished the day bottom of the table, but they had a positive result to savour themselves, as they earned a 1-1 draw at home to second-placed Ponte Preta.
William fired Ponte Preta ahead on 27 minutes at the Estadio Antonio Lins Ribeiro Guimaraes, but the struggling Barbarense found a way to avoid defeat.
Cesinha scored the equaliser, assisted by Alex, on 63 minutes for their seventh point of the campaign.
Paulista recorded a 2-1 win away at Guarani, courtesy of a goal to Hudson in the fourth minute of additional time.
Cadu struck to see the Estadio Brinco de Ouro da Princesa hosts to the lead on 11 minutes, but Matheus scored Paulista's equaliser seven minutes prior to half time.
Hudson was then on hand to score the winner, assisted by Flavio Paulino, to fire Paulista into 13th.
In the later kick-off, Santos fought back to beat Mirassol 2-1 and go level on points with Ponte Preta.
The visitors to the Estadio Urbano Caldeira struck first when Andre Luis was on target, but Santos went to half-time level when Givanildo scored four minutes prior to the interval.
The striker then saw his side to the lead on 74 minutes, and they held on to move within two points of league leaders Sao Paulo.
