Missed chances cost Lyon

lyon
Lyon have missed the chance to join Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Ligue 1 after being held to a 1-1 draw by Brest on Sunday.
Poor finishing cost Lyon victory as they dominated the home team but failed to convert their 17 shots on goal.

Having gone behind in the first half, Lyon equalised eight minutes after half-time through Tripy Makonda's own goal but Remi Garde's men could not find a winner, which would have seen them join PSG at the top on 54 points.

In the eighth minute, Brest made a mockery of the patchy look of the pitch at Stade Francis-Le Ble with Kamel Chafni and Magaye Gueye linking up on the left with a string of passes to bypass Lyon's defence before the former scored from the edge of the box.

But having survived a barrage of Lyon attacks before half-time, Brest were eventually undone in the 53rd minute when Makonda tried to intercept Lisandro Lopez's shot and only managed to knock it into his own net.

Lyon continued to pour forward after the equaliser but failed to score with Bafetimbi Gomis missing a huge goal-scoring opportunity in second-half injury time.

Sunday's result leaves Lyon on 52 points, two adrift of PSG, while Brest are 15th on 29.

At Stade Velodrome, Marseille came from behind with two goals in as many minutes to secure a 2-1 victory against Troyes.

Troyes headed south on Sunday bottom of Ligue 1 and with just two wins in their past 18 league games but looked to be on the way to a famous victory when Brazilian striker Marcos won the ball on the left wing, drove towards goal and produced a powerful finish in the 71st minute.

But the visitors gave up their lead in the 81st minute when Troyes defender Florian Jarjat deflected Jordan Ayew's shot past his own goalkeeper.

Marseille completed their comeback in the next minute through Andre Pierre-Gignac as the French striker got on the end of a flowing move involving Modou Sougou and Mathieu Valbuena to tap home the winning goal.

The win takes third-placed Marseille to 49 points, while Troyes remain bottom of the table.

In the other match on Sunday, Lille came from behind to defeat Bordeaux 2-1.
