Celtic, Falfkirk into final four

celtik, falkfik
Celtic advanced to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup after edging St Mirren, while Falkirk prevailed against Hamilton Academical.
Neil Lennon's side exacted revenge upon St Mirren for their League Cup exit, as goals from Joe Ledley and Anthony Stokes helped Celtic into the last four of the Scottish Cup courtesy of a 2-1 win.

Portuguese striker Esmael Goncalves had got the Paisley side back on level terms following the Welshman's goal, but the hosts were held off during a tight second half.

Celtic took the lead inside five minutes as James Forrest raced down the right wing before crossing into the box for Ledley to head home from close range.

However, the visitors then handed St Mirren an equaliser as John McGinn played a long ball into the box which Emilio Izaguirre somehow managed to head beyond his own keeper Fraser Forster, allowing Goncalves to knock the ball home from less than a yard out.

The Scottish champions regained the lead midway through the first half after a well worked corner, which saw Forrest play a one-two with Hooper before crossing to the back post, where Stokes was left unmarked to header home.

Celtic dominated the remainder of the match without adding to their advantage but done enough to progress to the last four.

Falkirk will join Celtic in the semi-finals following their triumphant 2-1 display against Hamilton at New Douglas Park.

Blair Alston bagged a brace, while Andy Ryan pulled a goal back for the hosts although it proved to be mere consolation.
