St. Pauli Vs 1860 Munich – The summer break is over for the 2nd Bundesliga and this Friday starts the new season, where many excited matches are expected to take place. Out of three matches that are scheduled for Friday we have chosen to analyse the most interesting one where will play two old rivals from the 1st Bundesliga; St. Pauli and 1860 Munich, who both ended the last season around the middle of the table. Regarding matches played against each other, St. Pauli won both of them played last year, while Munich’s last victory was achieved three and a half years ago. Begins: 19.07.2013 – 20:30 CET
St. Pauli
Exactly because of that great ratio in their matches in the camp of St. Pauli and this time expect to win all three points against the rival from the south of Germany, with which would only confirm that this season want to play a more important role in the popular 2nd Bundesliga. They finished the previous season on just the 10th place, and that was achieved largely thanks to the series of two wins and one draw in the last three rounds, while before that they had even feared for survival. It only tells us that St. Pauli fans in general want to forget the last season as soon as possible while they expect a lot more from this one. This is especially true when they have in mind matches played at home where they always make a hell of an atmosphere. Regarding the players, during the summer transfer window the club have left attackers Ginczek and Ebbers, midfielders Funk and Gogia, and defender Avevor, and their replacements are attackers Verhoek from Rennes and Noth from Furth, offensive midfielder Rzatkowski from Bochum and right defender Nehrig from Furth. Most of the newcomers should immediately get a chance in the starting lineup in which there will be no injured defender Mohr and midfielder Daube.
Probable lineups St. Pauli: Tschauner – Nehrig, Thorandt, Kalla, Schachten – Boll, Kringe – Thy, Rzatkowski, Bartels – Verhoek
1860 Munich
Just like their rivals from Hamburg and Munich players haven’t made a name for themselves in the last season, although they finished on sixth position with six points more on it account than St. Pauli. What is specific is that in this club always have the biggest possible ambitions and that means a fight for promotion in a higher rank of competition, but as they played the first part of the season so desperately they should be more than satisfied with the place they occupied at the end of it. Coach Schmidt is certainly the most deserving for the revival in their game. He had taken over the team just before the end of the autumn part of the season, while the best results were achieved in the beginning of the spring part. But at the end of the season they again showed signs of weaknesses which could be explained with facts that they realised to have no chances for promotion in the 1st Bundesliga while injuries took their toll too. Of course, it is now expected to start the season much better, as there should be not too many changes in the starting 11 while the newcomers; midfielders Stark from FSV Frankfurt and Adlung from Cottbus and striker Hain from Augsburg will probably wait their chance from the bench. On the other hand, those who left the team were mainly players who only occasionally made in the lineup (left guard Fathi, midfielders Halfar, Makos and Nicu and striker Kamara), while it should be noted that in this match of the first round will not play injured defender Wojtkowiak and midfielder Koussou.
Probable lineups 1860 Munich: Kiraly – Volz, Vallori, Bulow, Feick – Schindler, Stahl – Stoppelkamp, Bierofka, Tomasov – Lauth
St. Pauli – 1860 Munich Pick
Given that this is the start of the season we certainly should expect somewhat more careful approach by both teams, but in the end and primarily because of the tradition we have decided to give a slight advantage to the hosts.
