Imanol Agirretxe sent the visitors in front for the first time in the match when he scored in the 67th minute.

And former Arsenal man Carlos Vela sealed Basque bragging rights for Sociedad when he made it 3-1 with 14 minutes remaining.

Baup excited by PSG showdown
baup, qpr
Eli Baup believes Marseille's clash with Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint Germain on Sunday will be the most important match of the season.

Marseille sit just five points and two places off Carlo Ancelotti's team as the title race begins to heat up.

Baup's side will head to the Parc des Princes twice in three days, as they are also due to play PSG in the last 16 of the Coupe De France on Wednesday.

And the Marseille head coach is confident his side can rise to the challenge in both matches.

"In the history of both clubs, 'the clasico' is very important, emotionally and in the media, it's still the most important moment of the season.

"Obviously, every game is extre ... Read more »

Roura, Barca look to bounce back
roura
Jordi Roura has called on Barcelona to move on from their defeat to AC Milan, and insisted the team still deserve "credit, trust and respect".

Barca were beaten 2-0 by Serie A side Milan in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, with the La Liga leaders criticised for their lacklustre display at San Siro.

However, assistant coach Roura feels the players deserve considerable credit for their accomplishments in recent seasons, and believes they will bounce back swiftly from this disappointment.

Next up is a home match with Sevilla in La Liga.

"We must turn the page after San Siro," Roura said.

"Xavi (Hernandez) said we did not know how to compete, but ... Read more »

Allardyce demands good behaviour
allardyce
West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce wants the club's supporters to be on their best behaviour during Monday's clash with Tottenham.

Anti-semitic chanting was reported during the teams' clash at White Hart Lane earlier this season, with the behaviour of some West Ham supporters condemned in the aftermath.

And Allardyce has called for the home support not to engage in similar abuse when their rivals from north London arrive at Upton Park.

"I hope there's nothing untoward that happens in terms of chanting," he said.

"Like everybody else we want to try to reduce it to its bare minimum. We'd like to cut it out completely but I don't think that's ever going to be the case when people get involved in ... Read more »

Moyes wants more from Mirallas
mirralas
Everton manager David Moyes has challenged striker Kevin Mirallas to re-capture the form that earned him a move to the club from Olympiakos.

Mirallas was the top scorer for his former club last season with 20 goals and notched an impressive 14 the year before, but has struggled to produce the same form since moving to Merseyside for six million pounds in the off-season.

The 25-year-old picked up a hamstring injury during the 2-1 win over Sunderland on November 10 but has since returned to action and featured in six consecutive games for the Toffees, and Moyes believes this is now a chance for the newcomer to finally show his true potential.

"I don't think he's firing on all cylinders. I think he's not returned the ... Read more »

Schalke´s Keller wants knock-on effect
keller
Schalke coach Jens Keller is hopeful his side can build on an impressive midweek Champions League showing against Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Keller's men host Fortuna in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday, just three days after claiming a 1-1 draw in Istanbul against Galatasaray.

That result gives them every chance of moving into the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition, particularly with an all-important away goal in the bag.

And Keller – who liked what he saw from his team in the Turkish capital – wants to see more of the same thing.

"I hope we take the momentum from the Champions League into the game against Fortuna," Keller said.

"Galatasaray did press well but I ... Read more »

Benitez bemoans fixture congestion
benitez
Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez hopes his squad can cope with their congested fixture as they prepare to take on Manchester City on Sunday.
Benitez's men scraped through to the last 16 of the Europa League after a late goal from Eden Hazard was enough to see them emerge victorious in the two-legged tie against Sparta Prague.

Frank Lampard, Branislav Ivanovic and Ashley Cole are all likely to return for the English Premier League encounter in Manchester.

Benitez said he was confident his team still had energy, with Chelsea looking to maintain their top-four spot in the league.

"We have played around nine games a month, so we have played more games than anyone in Europe," he said.

"But we knew tha ... Read more »
