Herbert buoyed by improved Phoenix
Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert was upbeat about his side's improved performance after their 2-2 with Adelaide on Sunday.
The Phoenix were trailing 2-1 when the Reds Jon McKain was sent off for his second bookable offence in the 69th minute.
It proved to be the turning point as the home side mounted wave after wave of attack in search of the equaliser which eventually came from on-loan striker Corey Gameiro 10 minutes from time.
Adelaide were 2-1 up at the break thanks to sweetly taken goals from Tomi Juric and Marcelo Carrusca.
Jeremy Brockie's 12th of the Phoenix campaign was the result of an error by Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic and was gratefully received by a team that had not scored in their past t

Reus speaks highly of mentor Favre
Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus has hailed the impact Borussia Moenchengladbach coach Lucien Favre has had on his career.
The Germany forward has scored 11 Bundesliga goals so far this season, including two against his former club in a 5-0 win in September.
However, speaking to Bild, Reus was keen to praise the strength of Favre's influence on his development while he was under his management as he prepared for his first game back in Moenchengladbach.
"In my career I have certainly learned the most from Lucien Favre," the 23-year-old front man revealed.
"He has supported and shaped me and worked with me on many scary details. I will never forget that."

Fellaini considers Chelsea switch
Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini says an offer from Chelsea would be tempting as he wants to play in the Champions League.
The Belgian also spoke of his love for Everton though, saying he is happy at the club he has spent five years with, in spite of whatever future decision he may make.
The 25-year-old is the subject of much speculation and has been in scintillating form this season, leading the club's goalscoring charts with 10 league goals in 21 games.
Fellaini cited his desire to play in the Champions League as a major reason for a potential move, though he emphasised that it had nothing to do with his current employers.
"Am I interested in Chelsea? It's normal, right? I've never played in the Champions League,

A-League wrap: Heart thump Sydney, Adelaide into third
Melbourne Heart moved into fifth place on the A-League table with a 3-1 victory over a lacklustre Sydney FC at AAMI Park on Sunday.
Nick Kalmar and Jonatan Germano put the hosts two up before half time and when Sebastian Ryall conceded a penalty and was sent off early in the second half for denying Heart a clear goal-scoring chance, the match was as good as over.
David Williams stepped up to convert the spot kick and although Joel Griffiths pulled one goal back for Sydney, Heart were firmly in control and fully deserved the three points.
The victory was Heart's fifth straight at their home ground and sees them leapfrog their opponents into fifth place on the table, while Sydney drop out of the top six on goal difference.

Universitario fall victim to Cruzado dive
Saturday's Peruvian Primera Division clash between Universitario and Sport Huancayo was notable for a first-half dive from Angelo Cruzado.
Jose Mendoza flighted an enticing ball into the box for Cruzado in the first half, and the attacker ghosted past Universitario defender Aurelio Saco Vertiz.
There appeared to be no contact between the two players, but Cruzado flopped to the ground in apparent agony.
The referee awarded a penalty, which was duly converted by Blas Lopez to give Sport Huancayo the lead.
William Mimbela made it 2-0 eight minutes into the second half, but a Miguel Ximenez brace for the home side had things all square after 74 minutes.

Liga MX wrap: Tigres extend lead
Tigres UANL have extended their lead atop the Liga MX table to three points after accounting for Cruz Azul on Saturday in Mexico City.
A first-half brace from Emanuel Villa gave Tigres a 2-0 lead at the break and despite Christian Gimenez pegging one back for Cruz Azul in the 59th minute, they could not find the back of the net again as the visitors ran out 2-1 victors.
That result, coupled with second-placed Atlas being surprisingly held to a 0-0 draw by struggling Queretaro, ensured Tigres' grip on top spot was strengthened.
Tijuana (fourth) capitalised on America (third) slipping up on Friday by beating Atlante 2-0 to close in on the top three.
Goals from Raul Arambula and Duvier Riascos sealed the win

Karanka: We rode our luck
Real Madrid assistant coach Aitor Karanka admitted his side were lucky to beat Deportivo 2-1 in La Liga on Saturday.
Riki had put Deportivo ahead before second-half goals from Kaka and Gonzalo Higuain secured three points for Madrid.
While Karanka admitted his side were fortunate to claim victory, he did praise his team's much-improved performance after the break.
"I think that the first half wasn't good and that's why we made several changes in the second, to try to improve," Karanka said.
"I don't think it was just the three changes which improved our football.
"From the very first minute of the second half the attitude was different, and that helped us
