Mikel Arteta believes that investment is needed this summer if Arsenal are once again to challenge for major honours.

Having endured humiliating domestic cup exits to Bradford City and Blackburn and lost the home leg of their Champions League last-16 tie 3-1 to Bayern Munich, the Gunners' trophy drought looks set to extend to eight years.

Arteta feels that the gap between the north Londoners and league leaders Manchester United is 'unacceptable' and warns that the board must realise that they are falling behind the competition before it is too late.

"With 10 games to go and to be 24 points behind (the leaders), it's an impossible catch and that, for me, is unacceptable," the midfielder told the Daily Mail. 

Andriy Shevchenko believes AC Milan can reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of Barcelona.

Milan beat Barca 2-0 at San Siro in the first leg, and Shevchenko has little doubt that his side can seal the deal in Tuesday's return.

"I am confident Milan can progress, even though the 2-0 from the first leg is not enough to be completely sure," the former Ukraine star told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Barcelona are one of the strongest teams in the world, and you cannot write them off just because they lost to Milan and Real Madrid.

"However, it is clear that they are vulnerable and are going through a difficult period at the moment. A lot of players are not on top of their game and they have some problems in defence."

Franz Beckenbauer says he would love Bayern Munich to sign Wayne Rooney.

Speculation surrounding the Manchester United forward's future has been rife ever since he was left out of the starting line-up by Sir Alex Ferguson for the Red Devils' Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid and, as exclusively revealed by Goal.com, the striker has told team-mates that he could leave in the summer.

The Bundesliga outfit's honorary president has been a long-term admirer of Rooney, once describing him as 'one of the world's greatest players'.

"I would be very happy for Wayne Rooney to come to Bayern," the German World Cup-winning captain told reporters.

Former Manchester United strikers Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole both believe Wayne Rooney almost certainly has a future at Old Trafford.

There has been speculation that Rooney may be falling out of favour with manager Alex Ferguson after being left on the bench in last week's defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

But Yorke and Cole, who teamed up to help United claim the European Cup in 1999, have insisted England international Rooney will be staying at the club.

"I think a lot has been made of it (the decision to drop Rooney). If you go back before he signed his new deal a lot was made of it then," Yorke said.

Vitoria Guimaraes have stunned Vitoria Setubal in securing a 3-2 win despite being down to ten men in the Liga Sagres on Monday.

Algerian striker El Arbi Soudani gave Guimaraes the lead after 29 minutes before Issam El Adoua doubled the lead in the 73rd minute as the visitors looked to be cruising to victory at Estadio do Bonfim.

Guimaraes goalkeeper Douglas Jesus was sent off on 78 minutes and Setubal took full advantage, with substitute Ariza Makukula pulled one back in the 84th minute, before Pedro Santos equalised three minutes later.

But Guimaraes were not to be denied, as Amido Balde won the game for his side with a last-gasp 94th-minute winner.

Real Zaragoza and Granada missed a chance to move further away from the relegation zone after a 0-0 draw on Monday.

In a half during which both teams struggled to apply a finishing touch, Granada striker Odion Ighalo sent two chances wide, while Ruben Rochina missed the target twice for hosts Zaragoza.

Ighalo was the closest to breaking the deadlock at Estadio de la Romareda, heading Nolito's cross against the woodwork from six yards out.

Granada goalkeeper Tono was finally tested shortly after half-time, as Rochina let fly a volley from outside the area that was palmed away.

Real Madrid executive Miguel Pardeza has warned the club's rivals that they are intent on winning every title available to them.

Jose Mourinho's side have struggled in retaining their La Liga crown this season, but are still in the hunt for both the Champions League and Copa del Rey.

"The goal is to win all the titles. We do not value what others do, we focus on our games," the 48-year-old told Marca.

Diego Lopez was brought in from Sevilla in January in order to deputise for the injured Iker Casillas, and Pardeza is impressed with how the former Villarreal man has performed.

"(Lopez) was hired to help. We are very happy with his performances. We will see if there is debate when Iker is available again," he said.
