Liverpool hopeful on Sturridge fitness
Liverpool hope Daniel Sturridge will be fit for the start of the season after he suffered an ankle injury on international duty last week.
The 23-year-old was stretchered off during England's match against the Republic of Ireland last Wednesday, raising fears he may not be ready for the start of the 2013-14 Premier League campaign.
However, Liverpool have now confirmed they hope he will return in time for August 17.
The striker suffered a high ankle sprain and a full assessment of the damage was postponed until the swelling had subsided.
The diagnosis came after England manager Roy Hodgson had initially suggested that Sturridge would be out for a few weeks with ligament damage, but the injury was clearly more severe.
Sturridge has scored 11 goals in 16 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Chelsea in January.
