The Wearside club have also opened talks for Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone, who will reportedly cost the North-East club five million pounds.

Suarez wary of Italy threat
Uruguay star Luis Suarez says Italy are still a threat even without Mario Balotelli ahead of their Confederations Cup third-place play-off.
The AC Milan striker has been sent back to Italy after being ruled out of the tournament with an injury in the group stage defeat by hosts Brazil.
Italy missed the enigmatic attacker in their semi-final shoot-out loss to Spain on Thursday, but Suarez believes Cesare Prandelli's men have more than enough firepower in reserve to pose Uruguay problems.
"Even if they do not have Balotelli, there are a lot of players of the same quality, like (Sebastian) Giovinco," the Liverpool forward told Globoesporte.

Brazil maestro Neymar insists Spain will be favourites in the Confederations Cup final at the Maracana on Sunday.
Luiz Felipe Scolari's men have looked menacing throughout the tournament but will have to be at their best to defeat the reigning World Cup and European champions.
The 21-year-old vowed that while his team-mates have of the utmost respect for their Spanish opponents, they will not fall into the trap of defending against the world's number one ranked side.
"The Spain team is the best in the world. They are the favourites," Neymar said on Friday.
"But we have to play our own game respecting them, but also without letting them take control. We can't be afraid to take risks.

Blatter plays down impact of Brazil protests
FIFA president Sepp Blatter insists the governing body's reputation has been strengthened by the Confederations Cup.
The tournament has been marred by protests that have spread across the country with people dissatisfied at the lack of importance placed on public services by the Brazilian government.
While Blatter admitted he had sympathy for the protestors, he believes football is playing a positive role in helping to deal with the social unrest.
"FIFA has come out of this stronger, with our image enhanced. Football has played a positive part here and given emotion," Blatter said.
"Naturally the competition has been played now in a situation where there was definitely the social unrest with protests.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea will win this season's Premier League.

Arshavin reveals Arsenal monotony
Andrey Arshavin has claimed he was bored of sitting on Arsenal's bench after completing a permanent return to Zenit St Petersburg.
The Russian playmaker, who remains the Londoners' record signing, made just 11 appearances in all competitions last term, and was allowed to leave on a free transfer upon the expiry of the contract he signed after moving to the Premier League for £15 million in 2008.
After moving back to the Petrovsky Stadium on loan during the 2011-12 season, he has now completed a permanent move back to his first club, and is delighted to have escaped his spell under Arsene Wenger.
"The fact is I didn’t want to stay in England, this was clear since January," Arshavin told Sport Express.
