Inter Milan have been fined 15,000 euros over racist chants about Mario Balotelli during a Serie A match with Chievo.

Former Manchester City man Balotelli, who previously played for Inter before moving to England in 2010, joined rivals AC Milan during the January transfer window.

He was the subject of offensive chanting by sections of the Inter support during their 3-1 win at San Siro on Sunday.

It is the second high-profile case of racism involving Balotelli since the striker returned to Italy.

Paolo Berlusconi - the brother of AC Milan president Silvio - was filmed using offensive language when referring to the Italy international prior to his debut against Udinese.

World Anti-Doping Agency president John Fahey has called for football to do more in the fight against doping.

Performance-enhancing drugs have been thrust into the spotlight in the last 12 months, with disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong dominating the headlines after admitting to systematic doping.

Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp has dismissed Shakhtar Donetsk's lack of competitive action ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash.

Shakhtar have not played a competitive fixture since early December when they lost 1-0 to Juventus in their final match of the Champions League group stage.

The club's return to European action has arrived in the middle of the Ukrainian Premier League's three-month winter break.

But according to Klopp, that does not mean Dortmund can expect an easy game in Donetsk, emphasising the quality in Shakhtar's squad.

"Different parameters determine performance, playing in the league is only one of them," Klopp said. 

Phil Jones and Jonny Evans are likely to be available for Manchester United's Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The defensive duo were doubts for the game against the Liga giants on Wednesday after being withdrawn during the 2-0 league win over Everton, with Alex Ferguson revealing after the game that the pair would need to be assessed.

"Phil Jones got a kick on the calf and we will have to monitor that," Ferguson told reporters on Sunday. 

"Jonny Evans got a bit of cramp, and I think he's just lacked a couple of games. He only had 45 minutes for Northern Ireland. He had to travel all the way to Malta for 45 minutes, so we will see what he is like."

Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain says his side want a clean sheet as well as a win against Manchester United in the Champions League.

Real hosts United in the round of 16 tie at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs over two legs.

Argentina international Higuain knows United are among the heavyweights in the knockout stages, and wants to avoid conceding at home to maximise Madrid's chances of progression.

"I think it's quite a compact team," he said.

"They (United) always get through to the final stages in European competitions and there's a reason why. We will have to be on our guard.

Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach Stephen Keshi has withdrawn his resignation after talking to the country's sports minister.

Keshi had initially stepped down from his role on Monday having just secured the Afcon trophy less than 24 hours earlier, but the former Nigeria captain has now said he will remain in the role.

"My attention has been drawn to reports in the media that I have resigned my appointment as the head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria," he said in a statement.

Shakhtar Donetsk could set themselves up for a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals when they take on Borussia Dortmund.

With the flu running rife in Dortmund's squad, Shakhtar should be confident ahead of their home leg of the round of 16 on Wednesday, despite not having played a competitive fixture since early December.

Shakhtar's last match for points was in the Champions League group stage on December 6 when they lost 1-0 to Juventus at Donbass Arena in Donetsk.

But having won six of their seven friendlies over the winter break, the Ukrainian club should have plenty of confidence ahead of the visit of Dortmund.
