Tottenham star Gareth Bale has credited plenty of training-ground practice for his two excellent free-kicks against Lyon on Thursday.

The Welshman added to the set-piece he scored against Newcastle last Sunday with two long-range efforts in the Europa League tie first leg - the first from 35 yards out in first-half injury time and the second coming with the last kick of the game.

Gremio suffered a 2-1 loss to Chilean outfit Huachipato in Porto Alegre as they made a slow start in Group 8 of the Copa Libertadores.
Federico Falcone opened the scoring from close range after a Braian Rodriguez cutback to give the visitors a 17th-minute lead on Thursday.

Rodriguez went from provider to scorer six minutes into the second half as he powered a header into the bottom corner after Jose Contreras' cross.

Two-time champions Gremio pulled a goal back through Hernan Barcos' penalty, but Huachipato held on for an important away win.

Argentine outfit Newell's Old Boys proved too good for Paraguay's Olimpia, winning 3-1 at home in their Group 7 clash.

They just locked away their coach now Sydney FC are hopeful of finalising Alessandro Del Piero's new deal within the next week.
The Italian's brother and agent Stefano arrived in Australia on Friday and immediately turned up at the club's training base at Macquarie Park.

It is understood he will watch the Sky Blues' vital clash with Adelaide at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night before the two parties try and put the finishing touches on a one-year extension.

Del Piero's future has been the subject of much conjecture in recent weeks, with reports Brazilian giants Flamengo were keen on the 38-year-old striker.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was left 'very disappointed' after two disallowed goals cost his side against Metalist on Thursday.
Papiss Cisse saw two efforts ruled out for offside either side of half-time, with television replays showing both decisions to be questionable in the first leg of the Europa League round-of-32 tie.

Pardew refused to blame the officials as Newcastle earned a 0-0 home draw, and has called on his players to use the decisions as motivation when they travel to Ukraine.

"Both goals were goals. You see the replays and you can see that," Pardew told reporters after the game.
