Alonso: Liverpool need to be patient
liverpool
Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso says his former club Liverpool must show patience in order to progress under Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds currently sit ninth in the Premier League, have been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions, and are on the brink of elimination from the Europa League following Thursday's 2-0 defeat to Zenit.

But Alonso, who made 210 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, earning Champions League and FA Cup winners' medals along the way, says the club must give their coach a chance to prove his worth.

"With Brendan, Liverpool are building a project," Alonso said. "They need to be patient. We all want to see Liverpool fighting for the Champions League places."

Bayern´s Wolves win pleases Lahm
bayern
Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm said his side were relieved to secure a win against a 'tough' Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Friday.
Goals from Mario Mandzukic and Arjen Robben drove Bayern to their 18th league win out of 22 games.

They have yet to drop any points since the resumption in fixtures at the start of 2013, and now hold a mammoth 18-point lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

"They (Wolfsburg) were a tough opponent, but we knew in advance that they would play very aggressively here at home, and that's exactly how it turned out to be," Lahm said.

"At the beginning of the match we had a great opportunity with Thomas' (Muller) header which was only just off target.

"Then we ... Read more »

Helmer tips Bayern to beat Arsenal
helmer
Former Bayern Munich captain Thomas Helmer believes his old club can get past Arsenal and into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
He also thinks that the Bavarians, who are 18 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, could win both fixtures in their European tie, insisting that last year's runners-up have enough quality to overturn Arsenal at the Emirates.

"That should not be a problem. Arsenal always play well, but they are never dangerous. I would not be surprised if Bayern not only wins their home tie, but also the away game in London," Helmer told TZ Online.

"At the moment you have to say Bayern are playing well in every competition. The coach is doing everything right, the mood in the team is superb, does the game system - and t ... Read more »
