Alex Ferguson says Phil Jones will miss Manchester United's Champions League last-16 clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Jones limped out of the FA Cup game against Reading in February with an ankle injury and has lost his race to be ready for the round-of-16 second leg against Real at Old Trafford.

"He's not fit. He won't be fit for (Tuesday)," Ferguson told reporters.

"His performance over there was absolutely excellent. It's a miss but it's not something we can't manage, we've got options."

Ferguson said that while he hopes to stop former United man Cristiano Ronaldo, he is keen not to lose focus on his own team's attributes.

Former Italy international Marco Tardelli believes Liverpool star Luis Suarez would be the ideal addition to Juventus' attack.

Although they have secured the signing of Spain international centre-forward Fernando Llorente on a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao, the reigning Serie A champions are still reportedly keen to add a high-profile name to their forward line in the off-season.

They are believed to be closely monitoring the situation of players including Alexis Sanchez of Barcelona and Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic.

However, Tardelli feels Suarez would be an even better option, although the Republic of Ireland assistant coach realises signing the Uruguay star could be difficult.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp claims the club turned down a lucrative offer for defender Christopher Samba last week.

The centre-back only joined QPR from Anzhi Makhachkala in January.

But with the Russian transfer window open until February 27, he was the subject of interest from a Russian Premier League club just a month after completing his 12 million-pound switch to west London.

According to Redknapp, chairman Tony Fernandes rejected the offer to preserve QPR's slim survival hopes.

He told reporters: "We had an offer for Samba, right on the deadline and the chairman turned it down. It was for more money than we paid for Samba.

Liverpool have announced that their net debt has increased by 21.8 million pounds to 87.2 million pounds for the 2011-12 financial year.

The figures account for the period between August 1 2011 to May 31 2012 to coincide with the English football season and include 9.5 million pounds in 'exceptional payments' related to stadium project costs, general restructuring costs the departure of senior employees, according to a statement on the club's website.

The club say that turnover increased during the equivalent 12-month period due to a rise in the amount of domestic fixtures played - Liverpool reached the FA Cup final and won the League Cup - despite the lack of participation in a European competition.

Real Madrid midfielder Kaka says Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are Manchester United's chief threats ahead of their clash on Tuesday.

The Spanish champions were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Champions League round-of-16 tie at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Kaka is confident Madrid have what it takes to progress from the return fixture at Old Trafford.

"United have a traditionally European squad that always goes far in the competitions they play in. They also have some amazing individual players like Rooney and Van Persie," Kaka said.

"Manchester are really strong but we're going to Old Trafford with confidence. The stadium is fantastic, with the atmosphere and the fans.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has urged Joe Hart and Samir Nasri to cut the inconsistency out of their games.

City have dropped 15 points behind local rivals Manchester United in the defence of their maiden Premier League title, although they do have a game in hand against Aston Villa on Monday night, a run that has led to criticism coming the way of the manager.

"When I was a player I always took responsibility," Mancini said. "When I didn't play well, I said: 'Sorry I didn't play well and will do my best in the next game' and it should be like this.

Mesut Oezil is confident that Real Madrid have what it takes to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

Ahead of their trip to Old Trafford to meet Manchester United on Tuesday, Oezil said his side were high on confidence following their recent wins over Barcelona.

Real and United go into the clash at 1-1 after the first-leg draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"It's going to be a difficult match against a really good squad, but we already showed what we're capable of in the first leg. We were clearly better in the first half, with loads of chances," Oezil told Die Welt.
