Real betis 2:1 osasuna
real betis, osasunaReal Betis moved into fifth on the La Liga table after recording a 2-1 win over Osasuna, who ended the match with 10 men on Friday.
In wet conditions at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, Betis took the lead in the 19th minute when Jorge Molina headed home Joel Campbell's cross.

Osasuna, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao last week, went into the half-time break trailing and manager Jose Luis Mendilibar rung the changes in a bid to avoid a second successive loss.

Masoud Shojaei and Cejudo replaced Sola and Oier during the interval and the duo's introduction lifted the team.

The visitors were eventually level with just over 15 minutes remaining after Francisco Silva capped off a swift counter-attacking ... Read more »

Augsburg 1:2 Nuremberg
bundesliga
Nuremberg compounded Augsburg's relegation concerns with a 2-1 win in the Bavarian derby at SGL Arena on Friday.
The visitors hit the front through Hiroshi Kiyotake on 21 minutes before Tobias Werner restored parity 15 minutes later, but Nuremberg secured victory courtesy of Alexander Esswein's second-half strike.

Nuremberg move into 11th position ahead of the weekend's remaining fixtures, 10 points ahead of Augsburg, who occupy the relegation play-off spot.

Despite their lowly standing, Augsburg went into Friday's match relatively confident after just two defeats in nine games.

But they were trailing in the 21st minute when Kiyotake fired home the opener with a delightful 15-yard volley.

Mancini unlikely to move for Rooney
mancini, manchester city
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini admits it would be "difficult" for his side to sign Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
Rooney was named on the bench for United's Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday, sparking speculation the 27-year-old could be on his way out of Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The England international was reportedly a target for City in 2010, when the player publicly expressed his concern over United's ambition and long-term prospects.

Mancini, however, believes the striker will not be affected by the decision to leave him out of the starting line-up and an exit is unlikely.

"I think that Rooney is one of the best strikers in Europe but I think it is d ... Read more »

Genoa - Ac milan : Preview
genoa, milanThis is a fixture laced with tragedy and tensions are always high whenever these sides clash, but both also have plenty to play for heading into Friday's fixture
Four years ago AC Milan supporters wouldn’t have been allowed to travel to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. In 1995, a Genoa fan was stabbed to death by Milan ultras outside this stadium, and it was only in 2010 that the ban on away fans was lifted.
Both sets of ultras would do well to keep their team’s targets in mind when this match kicks off on Friday. AC Milan are just five points behind Napoli ahead of the 28th round of fixtures and Genoa are fighting to stay above the relegation zone.

Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri has as close to a full squad as he could hope to have this late in the season, with only defender Didac Vila and mi ... Read more »

Early goal can boost Barca, says Xavi
xavi, barca
Xavi said Barcelona have what it takes to overcome AC Milan in their Champions League round-of-16 tie.
The Blaugrana were stunned by a 2-0 defeat in the first leg at San Siro, but the Spanish midfielder remains upbeat Barcelona can reach the quarter-finals.

"I am quite optimistic that we can turn the first-leg defeat around, even though Milan are a strong and competitive team. The pitch will be in great condition and the fans will be behind us," Xavi told El Mundo Deportivo.

"Everybody has responded well to our recent losses and that encourages the team. We want to give the fans something to cheer about and will attack in numbers right from the start.

Referee stands by Nani red
nani red card
Referee Cuneyt Cakir claims he has no regrets over sending off Nani in Machester United's Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.
The Turkish official has been under fire following his decision to show a red card to the Portugal international in the second leg of the crucial European encounter, for what seemed like an honest attempt to bring down the ball.

United, leading 1-0 when Nani was sent off, went on to lose the second leg 2-1, bowing out of the round of 16 3-2 on aggregate.

Despite the controversy surrounding his influence on the outcome, Cakir has stood by his interpretation of the situation.

"I feel well and I don't doubt about my decisions. The red card to Nani was right. People will realise about it," ... Read more »
