Belgian First Division wrap: Genk climb to third
Genk continued their rise up the Belgian First Division standings after a 2-0 victory over Kortrijk on Sunday.
Defender Jeroen Simaeys put the home side up in the 13th minute, converting Dani Fernandez's assist before Dutch striker Glynor Plet doubled the advantage after 67 minutes.
The win was Genk's third in a row as they moved to third, still 14 points behind runaway leaders Anderlecht, while Kortrijk dropped to eighth position.
In Sunday's other game, Lokeren and Club Brugge shared the points in a 1-1 draw in which both goals came early in the contest.
Victor Vazquez's eighth minute strike handed Brugge the lead before Milos Maric equalised for Lokeren after 19 minutes.
As a result, Lokeren stay in fifth position, behind Standard Liege on goal difference, while Brugge remain two points behind in sixth.
