Fred aiming to impress Scolari
Fluminense striker Fred is ready to become an important part of the Brazil team following the appointment of Luiz Felipe Scolari.
The former Selecao boss was rehired in November and the 29-year-old believes his style of play would make him a useful asset to five-time World Cup winners.

"I always focus on doing a consistently good job at club level to make sure I deserve a place in the (Brazil) squad," he told the FIFA website.

"I'm an out-and-out centre-forward and so the characteristics of players like Neymar, Oscar and Hulk, who are all very quick, are a real bonus.

"As a central striker it makes me very happy, because I know at some point in the gam ... Read more »

Mancini: Fear paralyses United foes
mancini
Roberto Mancini claims that opposing teams 'play with fear' against Manchester United but give his Manchester City side a tougher test.
The reigning Premier League champions head into Monday's derby trailing the top-of-the-table Red Devils by 15 points, having won just 18 of their 30 top-flight games this term.

In contrast, United are unbeaten since November and have won 25 of their league outings.

Mancini says teams are intimidated by Sir Alex Ferguson's charges.

"No-one plays well against United because they only play with ... Read more »

Xavi tips years of Barca success
xavi
Barcelona midfielder Xavi insists his club's current squad can win silverware for years to come.
The Catalans have been one of the dominant forces in European football in recent years but some argued that their cycle was nearing its end after a string of disappointing performances in February.

They have since returned to their usual best and Xavi has little doubt that they will continue to win titles.

"I think we've had four or five excellent years in which Barcelona have been very, very good. But I think there are still some great games left in this generation and we'll enjoy even further success," ... Read more »

Ferguson proud of United character
ferguson
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has praised his side for their response to losing last season's Premier League title race.
United were denied a 20th top-flight crown on the final day of the campaign as arch rivals Manchester City claimed league honours following a thrilling finale.

But the Red Devils sit on the brink of reclaiming the title, holding a 15-point lead over second-placed City ahead of the sides' derby clash at Old Trafford on Monday.

Ferguson has praised his players for the way they responded to the last season's disappointment.

UEFA : Galatasaray - Real Madrid
champions league
Galatasaray have a colossal task on their hands to overturn a 3-0 deficit in their Champions League quarter-final tie with Real Madrid.
Goals from Christiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain led Real to a very comfortable 3-0 win in the opening leg.

Only catastrophe in Tuesday's second leg in Istanbul will deny them a place in the semi-finals and halt Real boss Jose Mourinho's quest for a third Champions League title.

Didier Drogba, who won the title with Chelsea last season, returned to form on Saturday with a brace for Galatasaray in a 3-1 win over Mersin Idmanyurdu in the Turkish Super Lig.
