No Marseille deal for Barton
barton
QPR and Marseille have both rejected claims by Joey Barton that he has made a move to France permanently.
The 30-year-old had taken to Twitter to declare an end to his association with the Premier League relegation-threatened Hoops, expressing joy at seemingly having avoided a spell in the second division of English football.

But Barton, who is on loan at Marseille, has been shot down by officials from both his parent club and current employers.

"Some strange people think that I'll be playing in the Championship next season?? Good one! QPR might, I won't! #fact," Barton had tweeted.

Pedro: Messi was the catalyst to victory
pedro
The Argentine talisman changed the course of the tie after coming off the bench in the second half, and his influence was celebrated by teammates Pedro and David Villa

Barcelona forward Pedro has pointed to Lionel Messi as the reason for the Catalan side’s 1-1 Champions League draw against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, which sends it through to the semifinals on away goals.

Messi was restricted to the bench for over an hour after concerns over his fitness, and in his absence Barca struggled, falling behind to a Javier Pastore strike five minutes into the second half.

But the Argentine left his finge ... Read more »

Andrea Barzagli admits that Juventus was second-best after the Italian side was defeated 2-0 at home by Bayern in the Champions League quarterfinal second leg, ultimately ensuring elimination by a 4-0 aggregate.

Even when he's injured, Messi is still Barcelona's savior
messi
The Argentine attacker is clearly some way short of his optimum condition, yet his mere presence gave the Catalan club a huge lift and inspired it to victory over PSG
The Camp Nou crowd were fearing the worst. Barcelona looked lost for much of the first half without Lionel Messi and the Catalans conceded early in the second as Javier Pastore fired Paris Saint-Germain ahead on a quick break. Eerie silence ensued and Barca was staring at a last-eight exit. It was time for Lionel Messi.

The Argentine is rarely on the bench these days, so his failure to start this match could mean only one thing: He was far from fully fit after injuring his hamstring in the first leg in Paris last week. But even his warming up ... Read more »

Adebayor is the man, says Villas-Boas
adebayor
Andre Villas-Boas has challenged Emmanuel Adebayor to fire Tottenham into the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday.
The tie is currently poised at 2-2 following a thrilling encounter at White Hart Lane last week in which strikes from Adebayor and Gylfi Sigurdsson overturned a two-goal deficit.

And, after the Togolese striker netted and hit the post in Sunday's draw with Everton, Villas-Boas is backing him to play a big role in Switzerland.

"Adebayor has got back in the goals in our recent games and he has shown how influential he can be," the 35-year-old told reporters.

Pardew talks up success over Benfica
pardew
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is confident his side can overturn a 3-1 deficit against Benfica in the Europa League.
The Liga Sagres giants came from behind to grab a healthy advantage in Lisbon in the first leg of the quarter-final.

But Pardew believes his team, who can progress with a 2-0 win at St James' Park on Thursday, can advance, even if they leave it late.

"Even if we need two goals with 20 minutes to go I think we can do it," he said on Wednesday.

"I think our fans and the way we're finishing games could be a pro ... Read more »

Jesus still cautious about Newcastle tie
jesus
Benfica coach Jorge Jesus has urged his players to avoid complacency during their Europa League quarter-final meeting with Newcastle United.
The Portuguese side go into the second leg of the tie at St James' Park on Thursday 3-1 up on aggregate following a comfortable victory at the Estadio da Luz last week.

However, the 58-year-old says he remains wary of the threat posed by the Magpies in front of their own supporters.

"We did enough - we scored three goals and Newcastle scored one," he said.

"But everything is still open, of co ... Read more »
