LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan believes he is close to returning to his best form ahead of Sunday's clash with Sporting Kansas City. Donovan made his first MLS start of the campaign against FC Dallas at the weekend as the Galaxy's unbeaten start to the season came to an end with a 1-0 loss. The United States international took a self-imposed sabbatical at the end of last season, relinquishing the Galaxy captaincy to Robbie Keane for the 2013 campaign. "Last week was really good for me personally," Donovan said. "This week has been a good week of training and my hope is that this is the week where it all comes together. "I am a lot more comfortable and confident. My touch is back naturally, so I'm not focusing on it anymore so I can focus on other things on the field. "That's when I'm at my best so hopefully this week ... Read more »
Barcelona assistant Jordi Roura says winning the La Liga title is the main priority this season, not the Champions League. Barca have effectively wrapped up a fourth league title in five years, holding a 13-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of the table. And despite Tuesday's Champions League semi-final first leg with Bayern Munich on the horizon, the 45-year-old assistant coach says that the league takes precedence. "For us the league is the most important tournament. If we win the league, and only the league, I think we have to be very happy with the season we've had," Roura told reporters, before Saturday's game against Levante at Camp Nou. "The team

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mark van Bommel believes Barcelona or Bayern Munich will win this season's Champions League. The 35-year-old has enjoyed spells with both clubs during his career, conquering Europe with Barcelona in 2006. He believes that, despite the quality Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund possess, the other two are the strongest out of the four sides. "Many are saying that Bayern are slight favourites, but I see things differently. The team that Lionel Messi plays for is never an outsider, and both teams are equally strong," van Bommel told El Mundo Deportivo. "Bayern Munich and Barcelona are the two best teams in Europe and I am sure that the winner of this tie will win the Champions League." When asked which side he wanted to progress from their semi-final, van

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew believes local rivals Sunderland "can only dream" of matching their European achievements. Pardew's side suffered a damaging 3-0 home defeat at the hands of their neighbours last Sunday, giving Paolo Di Canio an emphatic first win since taking over from Martin O'Neill. However, despite that humbling loss Pardew still feels Sunderland remain envious of Newcastle's exploits in the UEFA Europa League. He said: "It was a great day for Sunderland and for us a tough day. But I would rather play and give it a good go in the quarter-final of the Europa Lea

Schalke forward Jefferson Farfan says he dreams of one day winning the Bundesliga title with the club. The 28-year-old signed for the Gelsenkirchen side in 2008 and although he understands Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are the strongest sides in Germany, will not give up on winning the title in the coming years."Winning the Bundesliga would be my biggest dream," Farfan told Bild. "Although our chance has gone this year, next season we will go for it, even though Bayern and Dortmund are the big favourites." Farfan's contract runs until 2016, and the speedy Peruvian believes there is every chance he will remain with Schalke for the remainder of his career. "Finishing my career here is a possibility. Schalke has become my second home, and I am very happy here," he said. "At the very end of my career I would like ... Read more »
Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique believes the lack of a trophy this season does not take away from the progress made by his side. Enrique won the League Cup with Liverpool in his first season at the club under then manager Kenny Dalglish but he has been unable to add to that trophy this campaign. The 27-year-old has defended the lack of silverware this season and insists the club have progressed, even if their results do not show it, and will continue to improve in the future. "In terms of football and for the future, I think so," Enrique told reporters. "As the manager (Brendan Rodgers) said from the start, it's difficult because he came to the club w
