Laudrup: Contract renewal talks not a priority

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup says penning new terms with the Premier League outfit is not a matter of urgency.
The Dane is enjoying an impressive debut season in south Wales, with the Swans eighth in the table and looking forward to their first final in the Capital One Cup later this month.

Speculation has subsequently linked Laudrup with positions at Chelsea and former club Real Madrid in the summer, but with 18 months left on his current deal the 48-year-old sees no need to renegotiate his contract at the moment.

"I think for me the present is more important than the future, we have so many things coming up now and I already have a contract for next season so it is not urgent for me," he told reporters.

"We have some very important things to deal with right now. I am talking to the chairman a lot of times every week and we talk about a lot of things."

Goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel, however, has signed a new contract with Swansea - following the likes of Gary Monk, Leon Britton and star man Michu in extending their stay at the Liberty Stadium.

Laudrup is delighted with the recent commitments to his side, especially in light of possible more lucrative offers from elsewhere.

"It's good to get the players signed up, they are important to us," he said.

"We need to do it quick sometimes because it is difficult to compare and compete with the salaries of other clubs.

"You never know their other possibilities, you have to ask them, but we have to be realistic and know how it is here and the structure is working well. We know other clubs pay more money but players sign because they want to stay here which is good for us."
