Newcastle confirm Kinnear appointment
Newcastle United have confirmed the appointment of Joe Kinnear as their director of football on a three-year deal.Kinnear will report to the club's board and will be in charge of all football matters, meaning that manager Alan Pardew and chief scout Graham Carr will report into him.
The 66-year-old, who spent a chunk of the 2008-09 Premier League season in charge at St James' Park before suffering a heart attack, announced his appointment on Sunday but it was not confirmed by the club until Tuesday.
Kinnear angered the Newcastle faithful by insulting them in a bizarre radio interview on Monday, while he also mispronounced the names of several first-team players.

Valcke: Brazil better for football tournaments
FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke has hit back at claims the 2014 World Cup will not benefit Brazil.
There have been some protests in Brazil at the spending of public money on hosting both the 2013 Confederations Cup and next year's World Cup but Valcke believes the legacy of the two football tournaments will not be properly measurable for 20 years.
Speaking after the opening four matches of the Confederations Cup, Valcke claimed the World Cup will not only improve football facilities in Brazil but is already modernising the South American country's day-to-day infrastructure.
"The legacy is something which is more than just after the World Cup, it is for the next 20 years of the country," Valcke said.

Mourinho: Chelsea need stability
Jose Mourinho feels Chelsea need to remain a stable UEFA Champions League club if they are succeed under the Financial Fair Play rules.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have left it late to secure qualification for Europe's premier club competition in the last two seasons, and Mourinho believes they need to maintain their presence in the tournament in an era of tighter financial restrictions.
"We need to go back to this stability," he told the club's official website.
'It's important for the players, for the young players' development, for the club, for the fan base and for the economic situation which is more important with Financial Fair Play.

Reid remains at West Brom after agreeing new deal
Defender Steven Reid has penned a new one-year deal at West Brom.
The 32-year-old, who joined from Blackburn in 2010, appeared set to leave the Hawthorns as talks over a new contract looked to have stalled. He took to Twitter last week to thank the club's fans, which sparked speculation he was poised to be released.
Reid and the West Brom hierarchy, though, have now resolved any issues and the former Republic of Ireland international is pleased to remain with the club, with Sky Sports reporting that he has agreed a 12-month extension.
"Delighted to be extending stay at WBA," he wrote on Twitter. "Roll on next season!"

Dortmund confirm Lewandowski stay
Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted that Robert Lewandowski will not be leaving the club in the off-season.
The Poland striker has impressed with his displays for the Westfalenstadion outfit, helping them to two Bundesliga titles in the last three seasons and the UEFA Champions League final last campaign.
Lewandowski has been linked with a number of clubs including Manchester United and Bayern Munich, who beat Dortmund in last month's Champions League final at Wembley.

Hull sign Figueroa
Hull City have confirmed the signing of defender Maynor Figueroa on a free transfer.
Honduras international Figueroa joins the newly-promoted Premier League club as a free agent after he left Wigan following a five-year stay at the DW Stadium.
The full-back was a key-part of the Wigan side that got to last season's FA Cup final - although he did not take part in the 1-0 final success over Manchester City - but could not prevent the club from suffering relegation to the Championship.
Figueroa was signed by then Wigan manager Steve Bruce in 2008, and the 30-year-old has opted to rejoin his old boss, moving to the KC Stadium on a two-year deal.
