Wenger aims to take advantage of stability
premier league
Arsene Wenger hopes Arsenal's stability can help them break an eight-year trophy drought this season.
With Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all entering the 2013/14 campaign under new management, Wenger is the only boss from the English Premier League's top four clubs last season to retain his position for the coming campaign.
Wenger, speaking from Indonesia where Arsenal are about to begin a pre-season tour of Asia, believes that could give his team the jump on their rivals this season.
"Nobody knows what effect the changes will have but we hope to take advantage of our greater stability," Wenger said.

"What has been frustrating for me is that ... Read more »

Owen backs Moyes appointment
premier league
Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen feels David Moyes is the right man to lead the club in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Moyes was announced as Ferguson's replacement in May, when the revered tactician chose to retire following almost 27 years in charge.

Despite the momentous task of trying to follow Ferguson's trophy-laden time at Old Trafford, Owen feels Moyes is more than capable of living with the burden of expectation.

"I think everyone would agree it's a great appointment," Owen said.

"It's just in keeping with what Manchester ... Read more »

Mourinho: Rooney is a player I like
premier league
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admires Wayne Rooney's talent but refused to comment on speculation linking the striker with Stamford Bridge.

Alex Ferguson confirmed that the player had handed in a transfer request at the end of last season, with the striker reportedly frustrated at being left out of key fixtures such as the UEFA Champions League second-leg round of 16 fixture against Real Madrid.

David Moyes, Ferguson's replacement, has since underlined his position on the matter in declaring that Rooney would be staying at Old Trafford.

But the England international has been linked with several clubs through the close ... Read more »

Boateng elated with Fulham move
premier league
New Fulham midfielder Derek Boateng described his move to the Premier League as a "dream."
The 30-year-old has plied his trade in several leagues across Europe, including spells in Greece, Germany and Spain.
But the Ghana international, whose signing from Ukrainian side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk was confirmed in May, said he is excited by the prospect of playing in England.
"There's some big players in the league. I've been in Spain and it's a good league, but I always wanted to come to the Premier League because of the language, the game and the type of player I am, so I'm so happy to come to a good family club like Fulham.
"It's a big relief for me to finally be here. Fulham were interested ... Read more »

Wenger quiet over Suarez rumours
premier league
Arsene Wenger has refused to answer questions regarding a possible move for unsettled Liverpool forward Luis Suarez.
The Emirates Stadium outfit are in the market for a new striker and are thought to be close to tying up a deal for Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain.
And it emerged earlier in the week that Arsenal had made a bid of around £30 million for Suarez, who is seeking a move away from Anfield.
However, speaking while on the club's pre-season tour of Asia, manager Wenger would not be drawn on the issue of the Uruguay international, stating it would be unfair to comment on other team's players.
"Suarez? As you know the transfer period demands secrets and confidentiality, so I can't answer the ... Read more »

The English Football Association have amended their ruling on taking retrospective action.
The decision was ratified on Friday by the Football Regulatory Authority and will be enforced immediately.
A statement on the FA website explaining the rule change read: "From the start of the new season, the FA will reserve the right to take retrospective action when match officials are not in a position to fully assess a 'coming together' of players."
Previously the governing body could only take action if a challenge had been missed by all match officials, or if the incident was particularly exceptional.
