Giroud eyeing World Cup spot

Olivier Giroud is hoping to impress for Arsenal next season and play his way into contention for a trip to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The France international striker enjoyed a respectable first campaign in English football, scoring 17 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions.

Giroud now wants to use that as a platform to build on to ensure he is an important player for club and country over the next 12 months.

France will likely face a play-off to book a place at next year's World Cup in Brazil, but Giroud remains confident they can do just that and is determined to give coach Didier Deschamps plenty to ponder.

"It is a massively important season with a lot of challenges," the striker told Arsenal's official website.

"I really want to establish myself with Arsenal and make a name for myself here. Finally, I dream of playing at the World Cup in Brazil next summer as well.

"I played in the last Euros but this would be even more amazing. I am really excited about the season to come."

Arsenal finished fourth in the Premier League last season, with the club's last piece of silverware coming eight years ago.

Giroud added: "If we start better than we did this season, I know that we can compete for the title because we are used to playing together now.

"We have improved as a team but also as individuals throughout the season, especially the newcomers like Santi (Cazorla), Lukas (Podolski) and me."
