FIFA World Cup Qualifying: Morocco - Tanzania

fifa world cup
Tanzania could end Morocco’s World Cup qualification hopes when the sides meet on Saturday.
Kim Poulsen’s men currently occupy second place in CAF qualifying round two Group C, four points ahead of their north African opponents in third, and are looking to carve out a potentially decisive advantage.

These teams last met in the the most recent round of qualification fixtures in March, with Tanzania running out 3-1 winners at home.

They had beaten group rock-bottom Gambia and suffered defeat at the hands of the Ivory Coast prior to that, while Morocco could take only draws from both fixtures.

In truth, both teams face an uphill battle to overthrow Ivory Coast at the top of the group, but a win in their latest meeting is crucial to keep their slim hopes of doing so alive.

Defeat for Morocco would end their qualification chances and they will be hoping to make home advantage count at the Stade de Marrakech.

Tanzania, meanwhile, have never featured on the biggest stage in international football, with a first-round exit from the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations their biggest achievement thus far.

Mbwana Ally Samata and Houssine Kharja currently carry the goal hopes of Tanzania and Morocco respectively, having both notched twice during the qualification process.
